WHAT READERS ARE SAYING:
“The Secrets of the Montebellis is by far one of the best books I have read in a long time…What a fabulous book!...Cheryl did a fantastic job of portraying characters that you love and those that you!...Can’t wait till the next one comes out!”
Fabulously Written!!! Adriana's Secrets
After reading The Proof and falling in love with Colwell's writing, I was incredibly anxious to read the very next book she came out with, which happened to be Adriana's Secrets. I was unaware, however that it was book two to The Secret of Montebellis, you see, I thought that it was the sequel to The Proof. So, you could say that I was slightly confused with a lot of the back story, but I did manage to follow it and I did enjoy it.
Once again, Colwell pleased me with her characters and the suspense of the story. Her writing was fabulous and engaged me with every word she wrote and I already can't wait to read the first book (I often wonder how many series I've read backwards....I'm fairly certain that they would outnumber the ones that I read in order...)! I did find Adriana's Secrets to be much more emotional than I remember The Proof being and the violence was slightly more. But, I think that it was these two factors that made the book so well written, because Colwell captured the emotion of the characters so perfectly.
All in all, I rate Adriana's Secrets 4 out of 5 stars and encourage all fans of The Proof to read it (after reading book 1 first!)!
"I received this book from the author/publisher for the purpose of this review. All comments and opinions are my own"
By Rachel Dodson
The book begins in 1917 at the end of a horrible cabin fire that leaves the main character distraught and ready for vengeance. We then travel back in time to 1888 to begin our journey through the life of Adrianna Montebelli. An orphaned girl who seems to always be thrown around by the men in her life. She longs so much for a man who is strong and gentle like her Papa, but can she find him? Will she be able to have the man she longs for? This book was well written and somewhat intriguing. It was a little bit of a slow start for me, but once I got to the meat of the story, I couldn't stop reading. I enjoyed the suspense element of the book and was very pleased with the romance also. Each aspect of the book was believable and entertaining. I really couldn't believe how sad this book became. This book has several tear jerking moments, which I didn't expect. It definitely added to the entertainment value of the book. This book is the second in a series, but not having read the first book I feel this book could most definitely be read as a stand alone. Adrianna's Secrets has so many different elements involved in it, that no matter the genre you enjoy reading it is bound to delight. I was so pleased with the ending of the book. I felt Cheryl completed the story very well and I didn't feel as if it was open ended or unfinished. This book is a must read for anyone who loves fiction or romance or suspense!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through the BookCrash.com book review program, which requires an honest, though not necessarily positive, review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
Adriana’s Secrets by Cheryl Colwell, makes easy yet compelling reading. Despite the major losses in her childhood, and other hardships throughout her life, Adriana refuses to become embittered. She doggedly, maintains her grace and gentle demeanor despite being bullied.
Naturally, she endures spiteful and controlling behavior at the hands of, not only some of the men in her life, particularly Fabio, but also her own sister, Ladonna. Their presence causes much consternation and fear. Fabio’s brother Rico, becomes a constant kind heart that she can count on, therefore, it is a surprise when he marries another woman, and Adriana another man.
Along with her sister Ladonna, the girls are thrust into what can only be called a nightmare, where right from wrong, and true discernment is quickly learned, otherwise people will destroy them in an effort to retain massive wealth from opal mining.
How friends and neighbors, male and female, encourage or use them keeps you turning the pages, not wanting the tale to end.
Does good triumph? Do they find their true destiny and the desires of their hearts? That’s for me to know and you to find out for yourselves, by reading the book.
I had ample time to read this book, having been given a generous time-frame in which to do so, however, it took me just three days from start and finish. Well worth reading. Good characters and story.

I have read a number of really good books but it has been a while since I’ve read one that kept me as entranced as Adriana’s Time! (Confession—I read it in a single sitting! Couldn’t stop.) It is a historical romance involving family, life and death, greed, treachery, abandonment, love and loss. Set in the Wild West, before prohibition and regulation, at the time women were beginning to speak; to become more than an appendage on their husbands’ arms.
The language was clean without sacrificing reality of life, and the writing was wonderfully tight. I didn’t find any slow spots. Oh, there were places where you could begin to breathe again, but before you could relax the next catastrophe came! I began to feel sorry for the characters…would the bad things never stop? Couldn’t love somehow win?
The characters were perfectly portrayed—you hated the bad guys and loved the good guys. You wanted the bad guys caught and put away and you wanted the good guys suffering to stop. And of course, you feel rather helpless. I wanting to counsel, and even to yell at people about what they were about to do….but all you can do is turn the next page to see what happens!
You could understand why Adriana came to not trust men and formed the conclusion that it was useless to pray. I loved how God surprised her. Written with a Christian worldview, Adriana’s Secrets was an overall enjoyable read. I will savor the mental images for days. It is a book I can and will recommend easily to anyone, but specifically to history buffs, lovers of romance, and lovers of a good story. This book has it all.
Barbara Ann Derksen Adriana's Secrets
The story of Adriana Montibelli enfolds a life of sacrifice, terror, murder, and loss all wrapped up I. The protection afforded her by the Heavenly Father. Secrets written and eventually revealed surround a life of hardship, betrayal, and hatred but also contains love from usual and unusual sources. Read Adiana's Secrets to be entertained, engrossed and taken to another place in history. Pioneer spirits run rampant through this story, spirits that shaped the world as we know it but not without sacrifice. Cheryl Colwell does a magnificent job of drawing her readers into the life and time of the Montibellis.
Christine K Adriana's Secrets
Just as engaging as her first book 'The secrets of the Montebellis'. Did not want to put it down as I could not wait to see what happened next. It gives a better understanding of how life was in the years before women got the vote and a voice for themselves. The tragedies and the action keep you turning the pages. A very good read.

My heart is still racing!
I'll sheepishly admit I didn't read book 1, but I plan on remedying that shortly.
This installment does stand alone. Taking us back a hundred years in California, Colwell sets the stage for betrayal, family dysfunction, greed, suffrage, unions, and above all else, second chances and love. And a pesky bear, as the cover alludes.
Two orphaned sisters handle their parents' deaths in very different ways. Older sister Adriana, at seven, is a gentle and innocent soul, while little sister Ladonna, is a hellion. Who knows what she would have been like if their parents had lived. In this small traditional village with many Italian descendants, life if hard, and the family who took in the girls end up having to give Ladonna away, while second born son to Adriana's ward harbors life-long hatred on many levels.
The story takes the reader along the path of the girl's journey of loss and triumph through their personalities and choices, and the events manipulated by others.
Nicely wrapped from the opening through the flashback around Adriana’s life story, to the ending; told from multiple viewpoints, Colwell has devised a well-crafted tale in the vein of Steinbeck and the Grapes of Wrath. Those who enjoy American history and especially Steinbeck, will enjoy Adriana's Secret.
Karen S Tiede Adriana's Secrets
Endless suspense, intertwined with love and tragedy! Overall, you realize that a loving God is there all the time! Beautifully written!
A Story of Heartless Deception! Adriana's Secrets
Adriana Montebelli has suffered overwhelming tragedy and loss throughout her life as told in "Adriana's Secrets." This is a history of the events that precede the novel, "The Secrets of the Montebellis." The story begins with 7-year-old Adriana and her younger sister, and the events that separate them not only physically but spiritually. Separated by the families who accommodate them, the sisters drift further apart until their familial relationship is literally destroyed. Deception and betrayal become the norm throughout Adriana's life, and her faith deteriorates as a result. Her trust and hope are destroyed by the people she loves, yet she forges ahead through adversity.
Cheryl Colwell writes a brilliant romantic suspense novel that contains a myriad of unexpected developments. She portrays characters with great depth and sensitivity, creating individuals with charisma and distinction, as well as those who represent the most corrupt and ruthless beings. The author's descriptions throughout this book are highly picturesque and represent tangible images of the landscape and the moods evoked by the settings. Suspense flourishes throughout this book, and I literally had to force myself to put the book down to get some sleep. "Adriana's Secrets" is a novel that will hold your attention until the very end. I highly recommend this book replete with danger, conflict, misfortune and romance, with a renewal of hope and faith interwoven throughout the pages.
